TaterFest
Mount Jackson’s potato festival is exactly as silly as it sounds — a Couch Potato 1-Miler, a tater catapult, cow-pie bingo — and free to attend at Lions Park. It’s built for families with young kids more than anyone chasing serious festival food or craft vendors, though there’s some of both. It’s a small-town event […]

Homeschool Week at Luray Caverns
For one week every October, Luray Caverns runs a discounted admission rate built for homeschool families, pairing the cave tour with the geology and history lesson it naturally is. It’s the same cavern, same 54-degree constant, same hour-plus walking tour — just priced and scheduled for a weekday-family crowd rather than the usual summer tourist […]

Bryce Trunk or Treat
A free, low-key Trunk or Treat in Bryce Resort’s parking lot — decorated car trunks, candy, and a Halloween evening that’s over well before anyone’s bedtime is at risk. It’s a fraction of the scale of the region’s bigger Halloween attractions, which is the point: little kids who aren’t ready for a haunted-house scale event […]

Luray Fire Dept. 125th Anniversary Celebration
Luray’s all-volunteer fire department has been protecting the town since 1901, and it marks 125 years with a free open house at the fairgrounds — a fire truck show, bounce houses for the kids, and food for sale from the department’s own booth. It’s a low-key, genuinely local evening rather than a produced festival, and […]
