Luray-Hawksbill Greenway welcome sign beside the paved trail

Luray-Hawksbill Greenway

A roughly two-mile paved trail along Hawksbill Creek, with six parking areas along the way.

The Luray-Hawksbill Greenway is a paved, roughly two-mile walking and biking trail following Hawksbill Creek, about 10 feet wide, with six parking areas, restrooms, and leashed pets allowed.

It’s one of the strongest easy-access outdoor options in the area for anyone who wants fresh air without a mountain hike.

Hawksbill Creek along the greenway is a Class A stocked trout stream — more than 3 tons of trout are stocked here per year — with two dedicated accessible fishing platforms reached from the trailheads at 157 Virginia Ave and 191 N Broad St, both on the same paved, roughly 10-foot-wide trail. It’s genuinely fishable in street clothes, with a restaurant a five-minute walk away either direction. A Virginia trout license is required here from October 1 through June 15 (a general fishing license alone covers the rest of the year on stocked trout waters) — confirm current requirements with Virginia DWR before you go, since license rules can change.
