Virginia Museum of the Civil War

A 300-acre New Market battlefield park and Bushong Farm alongside a serious Civil War museum — one visit, one site, run by VMI.

The Virginia Museum of the Civil War, operated by Virginia Military Institute, is one integrated site combining the museum building with the 300-acre New Market Battlefield State Historical Park and the historic Bushong Farm — a single visit, not separately ticketed attractions. Open daily 9am–5pm.

The battlefield walk is the real draw here — this isn’t just a museum with cases of artifacts, it’s the actual ground the 1864 battle was fought on. It skews toward older kids and adults; younger children may find the pace and content more than they’re ready for. Admission is required for the museum and grounds; call ahead or check the official site for current pricing before you go.
