Kennedy Peak

A free 6.8-mile round trip in the George Washington National Forest to a stone observation tower looking straight down on Page Valley.

Kennedy Peak is a 6.8-mile round trip with about 1,353 feet of elevation gain in the George Washington National Forest, reached from the Stephens Trailhead off VA-675. A stone observation tower at the summit looks directly down on Page Valley and the South Fork of the Shenandoah River — arguably the best view of Luray’s own valley that exists, and there is no fee to hike it. Dogs are permitted.

Roadside parking on the ridge has been prohibited since 2020 — use the designated trailhead lot rather than pulling off along the road.
